Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year here at Corvallis Middle School STEAM Magnet.
My name is Mr. Chris Ballesteros & I will be your child's 7th grade or 8th grade Social Science teacher. I am proud to say that I have been an active educator at Corvallis since 1999, teaching 7th grade World History, 8th grade U.S. History as well as a 7/8 AVID elective class. My educational background includes twelve years of attending private school. I also earned my Bachelor's degree in History as well as my teaching credential from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending quality family time with my wife & thirteen year old daughter, vacationing in Orlando, Florida and watching (L.A.) Dodger baseball & Laker basketball. I am also an extreme fanatic of science fiction, especially when it comes to anything related to Star Trek & Star Wars.
7th grade students will learn about the following units of study in World History while incorporating the new Common Core Standards: The Fall of Rome, the rise & spread of Islam, West African empires, ancient China & Japan, medieval Europe, the Renaissance, the Reformation of Christianity, as well as the Early Americas (Mayans, Aztecs, Incas).
8th grade students will learn about the following units of study in United States History while also incorporating the new Common Core Standards: The Original Thirteen Colonies, the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, the framing of the U.S. Constitution & The Bill of Rights, the branches of government & their functions, westward expansion, & the Civil War.
Parents & guardians are strongly encouraged to check & review the Classes / Assignments link on the Corvallis Home Web Page on a daily basis regarding homework assignments & upcoming tests. In addition, parents & guardians should routinely check the Powerschool Parent Portal for updates regarding the current status of their child's grade.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me (click the link on the right) or leave a message by calling the school at (562) 868-2678. I look forward to working with you & your child and I hope that he or she will enjoy my class.
