Dr. Matthew Fraijo

I want to welcome you to our school and to our Corvallis Middle School website. We take great pride in our school and our students. At CMS we strive to have our students become "Lifelong learners achieving excellence." Our goal is to use our literacy initiative strategies to ensure that "9/10 students are reading at grade level." In doing so we have a great balance of strong core classes alongside fun and exciting elective classes. In addition, we offer sections of math and reading elective courses for those students who need extra academic support. But we also offer a full visual and performing arts program at Corvallis. CMS also prides itself on maintaining a safe and orderly campus where students feel safe and personally valued.

CMS is a campus where students and adults get along and love to learn together. There is a persistent feel of appreciation and respect for students and the learning process at CMS. Our 6th grade team is in the "core" model, which serves to transition students from the elementary model of one teacher to a core team where your child will have the same teacher for math and science and a partner teacher for language arts and social studies. Students then matriculate to the 7th and 8th grades where they will be served in the "single subject" model that will effectively prepare them for high school. Our students enjoy a full before and after school tutoring program and our student athletes receive the assistance they need to be successful in their academic endeavors. We also offer a comprehensive program for our G.A.T.E. and English Learner students. These students are offered a monthly activity that complements their daily rigorous course of study. We have a top-notch special ed. program that serves the needs of all students in a firm and loving manner.

Furthermore, our music program has added strings this year in addition to the traditional brass and percussion program. Students can also take a guitar class if they have an interest in that instrument. We are proud to offer beginning and advanced ceramics classes, for which we have five spinning wheels and an "old fashioned" kiln for our students to enjoy. We also offer a full technology program, art classes, and many other creative electives at CMS. Come by and check out the wonderful projects and activities that our Bulldogs are participating in at Corvallis. The arts are alive and well at CMS, where your child will receive a full academic experience!

We are also proud of our full intramural sports program at Corvallis. We offer co-ed football and volleyball in the fall, and boys' and girls' basketball and co-ed soccer in the winter. In addition, we offer boys' and girls' softball and co-ed track and cross-country in the spring. Our students find that these activities are wonderful outlets for their academic, athletic, and social development. Our ASB (student body government) conducts many dances and other fun activities for our students to enjoy and to build school spirit. From the moment you walk on our campus you will feel the creative flow and love that abounds at Corvallis. We invite you to come to CMS and experience the difference!
